The research into event volunteering has been conducted initially by a team from the University of Strathclyde on behalf of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Legacy Partnership but is being continued through collaboration within the UK and internationally.
Dr Robert Rogerson is Academic Director of the Institute for Future Cities at the University of Strathclyde and was Research Coordinator for the Partnership. He is involved not only with event volunteering research but has extensive research experience working with communities, both in relation to urban quality of life and sustainable communities. Having conducted research for the Big Lottery Fund and a range of other grant funding bodies, he has been advising and shaping policy and research on event volunteering in the UK. Robert has led the research team in the volunteering projects for the last 10 years.

Dr Fiona Reid is an independent researcher and director of Bayfirth Research focusing on sports volunteers and voluntary sports clubs. She was previously lecturer in sport and event management at Glasgow Caledonian University. Fiona has been lead researcher on legacies amongst the Host City Volunteers.

Dr Rafaella Nicholson is Senior Lecturer in the Business School at Bournemouth University. Her research sits at the boundary between contemporary history and sociology and focusses in gender and sport. Raf has been involved in researching the legacies and social connectedness of the Host City Volunteers.

Sue Sadler has over 20 years’ experience of Evaluation and Research relating to third sector activities and support, including evaluation of funding programmes/mechanisms and social impact. As well as running her own independent consultancy, Research & Evaluation Services, she worked at the University of Strathclyde for 10 years from 2008, including on sustainable communities, local visions of communities, and community accessibility. Sue has lead researcher involved with event volunteering support and evaluation of volunteering.
Dr Andrea Pavoni has been conducting analysis of mega-sporting events since 2008, principally investigating the preparation, occurrence and legacy of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, and the 2012 London Olympics. This research has focussed on issues around security, social/inclusion, commodification and regeneration. Andrea is now post-doctoral fellow at the University Institute of Lisbon. He was lead research assistant on the ceremony volunteers.

Tom Duncan has conducted analysis of the effectiveness of the legacy projects of the London Legacy Development Corporation in providing an engaging, sustainable and accessible legacy and worked as intern with Cecily’s Fund assisting them in the evaluation and development of their corporate grant programmes. Tom was lead research assistant involved with the Queen's Baton Relay volunteers and is currently account director at AxiCom.

Richard Withington has worked in capturing oral histories within Glasgow. Having worked part-time with the research team in 2014, Richard moved to a full time position with Grant-Aided Special Schools. He was involved in the initial research on the Host City Volunteers.
